ESPN’s NFL Power Rankings Have Giants #3, Jets #23

Week one is officially here and ESPN has released their NFL power rankings.  The Giants begin the season ranked #3 with the Steelers and Patriots ahead of them.  ESPN didn’t think too highly of the Jets, sandwiching them between the 49ers and Bengals at #23.

The Giants and Jets are similar in the fact that they both will rely heavily on their defense and running game.  The G-Men have a better defense than the Jets, a more experienced quarterback, and a more experienced head coach.  Although they have similar principals, the Giants will fair much better than the Jets will in 2009.

Rankings are what they are.  They are meaningless in the whole sense of things.  Teams don’t look into them.  The rankings are what certain people feel.  Analysts can’t predict what’s going to happen.  Look at the 2008 Rays team in baseball.  No one in their right mind would have said the Rays would win the division, let alone go to the World Series.  Football is even harder to predict due to injuries and other unpredictable circumstances.  I disagree with where ESPN has the Jets ranked but what does it matter?  The Jets need to win and prove analysts wrong.
