Jets Need to Let Their Play Do the Talking

The Jets have done more talking this week than former coach Eric Mangini did in the three years he was with the team. Rex Ryan and Mangini are polar opposites when it comes to the media. You could say Rex and Mangini are polar opposites when it comes to most things. The only thing they have in common is a base 3-4 defense.

Not only has Rex pumped up the fan base, but his players have become more emotional and vocal since he came aboard. Rex hasn’t been afraid to dish out poster board material for the Patriots and other teams. He started chirping his first day on the job at his introductory press conference. Now Jets players are chirping away giving the Patriots more poster board material to read. Jets safety Kerry Rhodes said they are looking to “embarrass” the Patriots on Sunday. Bill Belichick must have the largest poster board of any NFL locker room.

The Jets are one of the most vocal NFL teams on twitter too. Do you think so many Jets would be on twitter if Mangini still was in charge? I doubt it. The Jets are in tune with their fan base and vocal with the media.

It’s nice that Rex and the Jets don’t hide form the media and are open but it’s time for the Jets to shut up for the week. I say this not because I think “poster board” material drives a team to play better. I don’t agree with that at all. These are professional football players, if they need some quotes to pump them up on Sunday then they shouldn’t be in the NFL. NFL players shouldn’t need to hear people telling them they are going to get “embarrassed” to play hard. They should be pumped up each week and play their hardest every game. I say the Jets need to shut up because I agree with Tom Brady that talk is cheap. Let your play on the field do the talking for you.

I have heard enough out of the Jets and want to see results on the field this week. That is when I’ll take them serious and start listening to what they have to say. They looked great week one but this Sunday they are playing an elite team with an elite quarterback and an elite coach. Let the score do the talking.

The Patriots and Jets meet at the Meadowlands 1 p.m. Sunday.
