Braylon Edwards, who was at odds with the Browns organization and fans, will get a new start as a New York Jet. The Jets have desired a number one receiver for some time now and finally get a guy that has the potential to be a top receiver in the NFL. The Jets have flirted with several receivers in the last year including Plaxico Burress and Brandon Marshall among others.
The acquisition of Edwards does a lot for the Jets. He will open up the run game now that opposing defenses need to key on him and Jerricho Cotchery. This will give Thomas Jones and Leon Washington more running room. Edwards also gives the Jets a deep threat. He has great size and speed that’s not seen too often. The Jets have a lot of guys that catch the ball in between the hashes. Now, as Herman Edwards said on ESPN, Braylon gives the Jets a legitimate threat outside the numbers.
Edwards hasn’t lived up to the hype of a third overall draft pick but has the chance to start all over in New York. He drops a lot of passes though and if that continues he may be on the bad side of Jet fans. The Jets are hoping they are getting the Braylon Edwards that had 1289 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2007.
