Sanchez, Edwards and Jets Ready for Dolphins, MNF

AFC East division rivals clash tonight as the Dolphins (1-3) host the Jets (3-1) in Miami. With a win, the Jets take sole possession of first place in the division after the Patriots lost to the Broncos on Sunday.

After starting 3-0, the Jets hit a bump in the road last week losing 24-10 in New Orleans. Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez turned the ball over four times including three interceptions and a fumble. Sanchez and the Jets need to put the loss behind them and have a chance to do that in Miami.

Jets coach Rex Ryan doesn’t think the loss to New Orleans will have a lingering effect on Sanchez. “He’s like a tiger,” Ryan said. “He’s going to come roaring back. There’s no doubt. I have 100 percent confidence in him, and I have confidence in our football team.”

Sanchez has a new target to throw to in Braylon Edwards. The Jets acquired Edwards from the Browns on Wednesday and he looked great in practice and will be inserted right into the action when the Jets offense takes the field.

Edwards counterpart, Jerricho Cotchery, said, “I know he’s going to add something great to this offense. We’ve got to smile about that because he’s a great player and he’s going to demand a lot of attention.”

Cotchery has been hampered by a hamstring injury and is listed as questionable for tonight’s game. This puts more of an emphasis on Edwards in the passing game. In his first game with the Jets, he will play a major role in the outcome of the game. Edwards, who has a great combination of size and speed, will need to catch whatever comes his way Monday night.

The Dolphins won their first game of the season last week against the Bills behind backup quarterback Chad Henne. This week, the Bills lost to the Browns 6-3. That win doesn’t look like such a great feat now. Henne will need to be efficient to give the Dolphins a chance to beat the Jets.

This will also be a matchup of the wildcat offense against the aggressive defense. The Jets will win if they shutdown Miami’s ground game.

Mark Sanchez will rebound nicely and Braylon Edwards will give him a nice big target to throw to. The Jets need to get their running game going early and can win this game if they don’t turn the ball over.
