Poor Mets. The Mets are becoming a hot topic because of the wrong reasons. Everyone is wondering who Met fans will be rooting for in the World Series. Is it even an issue?
How in the world could a Met fan root for their division rival Phillies? This team took the NL East from your beloved Mets three years in a row. Not to mention, they were a major part of the Mets’ collapses in ’07 and ’08. The Mets and Phillies meet at least 16-18 times a season. The Mets and Yankees meet six times a season.
How could Met fans not want the Yankees to crush the Phillies in the World Series? Yankee fans would want the Mets to beat Boston. It doesn’t matter who wins the World Series, the Mets aren’t going to feel any better about their season just because the rival Phillies or Yankees lost the World Series.
All this talk about this World Series matchup being the worst case scenario for Met fans is ignorant. A true Mets fan would never root for the Phillies. A true Mets fan is worried about the Mets offseason moves and how the Mets can get into the playoffs in 2010.
Enough of the dumb question about who Met fans are rooting for. In the end Met fans won’t be happy. Let’s leave Met fans alone. They’ve been through enough.

I’m a Mets fan from my younger days but don’t follow baseball all that closely anymore, not even close enough to begrudge the Yankees their inevitable money spending success. Red Sox fans tend to be rather obnoxious so I pull for the Yanks over them. As for Yanks vs. Phillies I don’t care too much one way or the other which team wins, just hoping for an exciting, competitive Series since I’ll probaby catch a few innings here and there.
