Yankees Are Back to World Series For First Time Since 2003

The last time the Yankees won the American League pennant Aaron Boone had just hit a walk off home run in the 13th inning in game seven of the 2003 ALCS against the Red Sox. The Yankees are back in the World Series after and hope the outcome is better this time than in 2003 when the lost to the Marlins.

The Yankees foe is another NL east opponent, the Phillies. This is the seventh time the Yankees are playing in the World Series since 1996 and this marks the fifth time they’ll be facing a team from the NL East (’96 Braves, ’99 Braves, ’00 Mets, ’03 Marlins, ’09 Phillies).

This might be the last time the “Core Four” (Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte, Posada) play in the World Series together. The aging veterans have been through it all and would like one more ring together.
