Can Jets Beat Undefeated Colts?

The Jets are no stranger to playing undefeated teams late in the season. Last season, they traveled to Nashville to play the 10-0 Titans. Before the Jets departed from Tennessee, they left the Titans a tall present in their loss column. The win made the Jets 8-3 and led some analysts to consider them “serious contenders” and some people went as far as to say we could be looking at a New York, New York Super Bowl (Giants were 10-1 at the time). The Jets had beaten the Patriots in Foxboro the week prior and the win over the Titans was their fifth in a row.

By the way, I was at the Jets vs. Titans game in Nashville. I drove up there from my college in South Carolina and boy were Titan fans mad about the loss. There were a decent amount of Jet fans there too. After Leon broke off for a 61-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter to put the Jets up 27-6, you could hear Jets cheers around the stadium as Titan fans left.

The “serious contender” chatter was premature as the Jets would win only one of their last five games to end the season 9-7, good for third place in the AFC East. Blame it on coaching, Favre’s injury, or whatever you want. The Jets didn’t do enough in their last five games to get into the playoffs.

The Jets have the chance to break up another perfect season for the second straight year. This time, we are even deeper into the season as the Jets will play the 14-0 Colts in Indianapolis on Sunday. Although the Jets aren’t officially out of playoff contention, things aren’t looking good for them. A win against the undefeated Colts is a must for the 7-7 Jets.

Two MVP candidates will be on the field at the same time on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Defensive MVP candidate Darrelle Revis will try to shut down Reggie Wayne and his quarterback, offensive MVP candidate Peyton Manning. That should be a great battle the entire game. The Jets’ defense should be able to hold the Colts’ offense in check. I’m more concerned with the Jets’ offense getting something going against the Colts’ defense. If the Jets have any chance at winning this game, they’ll need to score at least 17 points. This one won’t be a 10-7 game.
