Updated information regarding Tracy McGrady rumors
The New York Post has reported that Tracy McGrady’s agent, Arn Tellem, had plans to meet with Knicks president Donnie Walsh Thursday night to discuss McGrady. The article also cites that Tellem doesn’t think any trade for McGrady will get done until February.
McGrady isn’t going to be playing for the Rockets anymore, but will he become a Knick? After a recent surge by the Knicks, would the acquisition of Mcgrady throw a wrench in the team’s chemistry? Donnie Walsh opted not to sign Allen Iverson because he thought it may be detrimental to the development of young players on the team. McGrady’s case may be similar, especially since the Knicks have caught fire of late.
The Knicks were discussing the possibility of bringing Iverson in when the team was in the cellar. Since talks of Iverson, the Knicks have climbed out of the cellar and are in contention for a playoff spot. They are 12-6 since December started. Would bringing in McGrady improve this team or make them worse?
The difference between Iverson and McGrady is that Iverson was a free agent and to acquire McGrady, the Knicks will be able to trade away some unwanted contracts to increase cap room. McGrady will be a free agent after this season so his figures will come off the books. For this reason, Donnie may be more inclined to bring in McGrady than he was with Iverson.
What are your thoughts on the possibility of McGrady coming to the Knicks?
