Eric Byrnes, Mets, Yankees

Eric Byrnes was released by the Diamondbacks last week and the soon to be 34-year old outfielder could find a home in New York. Byrnes hasn’t played a full season since since 2007, which was his best year. He struggled with injuries in 2008 and 2009 and his best years are behind him. He could, however, be a viable fourth outfielder for a team. The Mets could come knocking and use Byrnes in centerfield until Beltran gets back from injury. The Yankees could use Byrnes as a fourth outfielder and have him spell Garnder at left field from time to time.

Byrnes hit .226 in 84 games during 2009. He played in 52 games during 2008 with a .209 average. He is a .260 lifetime hitter. He could serve well as a fourth outfielder for either New York team.
