ESPN is reporting that the Jets will release running back Thomas Jones this week. He is due a $3 million roster bonus if he remains on the team by March 9. The 31-year old running back has had very productive seasons with the Jets for the last three seasons. He recorded careers highs in rushing yards (1,402) and rushing touchdowns (14) in 2009.
Jones joins a group of 30+ year old running backs that have been released, which includes Brian Westbrook and LaDainian Tomlinson.
