Chris Canty arrived at the Giants’ facility around noon Tuesday, met with the team’s coaches, including Tom Coughlin , lifted in the team’s weight room and went home. Wednesday he planned on doing the same thing, with the slight adjustment of working on his lower body instead of his upper body.

“I had an opportunity to come over here and work out and I wanted to take advantage of it because this is where I wanted to be,” Canty said as he left the facility around 2:30.

When told that early reports indicated no other NFL team was as accommodating on the first day of business after the injunction against the lockout Monday night, Canty smiled.

“I didn’t expect anything else,” he said. “This is a class- act organization all the way. They want the best for their players and they want us to be successful. I wasn’t surprised.

“This is the New York football Giants,” he added, “not the Jets .”

This little preseason jab from Canty came out of nowhere. I thought maybe he would have taken a shot at Dallas.

The Giants and Jets have been trading jabs more frequently in recent years. Rex Ryan took some jabs at the Giants in his new book.

Canty, originally from the Bronx, is entering his third season with the Giants after playing four years in Dallas. His Giants will play the Jets on Christmas Eve this season.

Speaking with Mike Francessa on WFAN Wednesday, owner John Mara says that Giants season ticket holders won’t have to pay any money to them until there is a new collective bargaining agreement.  In addition, Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports the Giants won’t raise ticket prices this year.

Great job by the Maras. I am a Jets season ticket holder and I have already made a payment for my tickets. I know I’ll get refunded if games aren’t played, but I’d rather be able to hold on to my money until it a new CBA is agreed upon and football in 2011 is a certainty.

The Giants are looking out for their fans. Other NFL teams should be more like the Giants in this regard.

Never again, barring a fluke-of-all-flukes season, are the Yankees going to be a below-.500 team, let alone down in the dumps for years at a time. Baseball likes to talk about its parity, and when it comes to teams competing for a championship, it’s valid. Unstated is the fact that the Yankees would never flail along with five subpar seasons over 11 years as have their football counterpart, the Dallas Cowboys.

This is a testament to the late George Steinbrenner. He put winning first and wanted to deliver a championship to New York every single year. His family carries on his values and the Yankees will always be a contender — even after the Jeters and Riveras have been long gone from baseball.

As for the comparison to the Cowboys, I’m sure that puts a smile on the face of all Yankees-Giants fans (although I don’t necessarily agree due to some major differences between the MLB and NFL).
