Kevin Millwood ‘looks terrible’

The Yankees added Kevin Millwood late in the offseason for pitching depth and insurance. But don’t expect Millwood to be starting a game for the Bombers any time soon.
Maybe Kevin Millwood will ride to the Yankees’ rescue at some point. But we heard this review of his work so far in extended spring training: “He looks terrible. Here’s a guy who used to throw 94-95 [mph]. Now he’s throwing 86.”
I wonder how Carlos Silva is doing?

Why insurance in sport Is important

Professional sport may seem like a lucrative career and for those that reach the pinnacle of their profession, the rewards are indeed great. However, at some time or another, injuries can play a huge part and in some cases can devastate a career. Whether you are a college sportsman or a professional athlete, it is important to consider adequate sports insurance to cover any eventuality.

Specialist sports team insurance can cover two eventualities. If the sportsman is injured for a period of time, insurance can cover loss of earnings after a waiting period. In some cases, injuries can be career ending and in this instance, sports team insurance can provide a lump sum to help compensate for a shattered career.

To see how fragile a career can be you only have to look at the case of Joe Theismann. Theismann was a legendary quarterback with the Washington Redskins in the NFL. He had enjoyed a successful 11 year career with the Redskins after a spell in Canadian Football and he guided the club to a successful season in Superbowl XVII.  (more…)

Jets interested in Randy Moss?

From Vic Carucci of NFL.com:

According to multiple league insiders, the interest the Jets have in Moss is twofold. One, it could help them weather the very real possibility of losing at least one of their three free-agent receivers: Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith. Two, it would keep Moss from returning to the Patriots, whom he is known to want to re-join.

Ryan also spoke about Moss last month, according to Greg Bedard of The Boston Globe.

Ryan spoke highly of Moss last month. “Randy Moss, I’ve said all along, is a great vertical receiver,’’ Ryan said at the owners’ meetings. “And you have to roll coverage. Most teams would have to roll coverage to him. We never did, but we got burned for a touchdown. But he was a weapon. A vertical weapon down the field.’’ Curiously, when Ryan began to speak about Moss, he checked first with team spokesman Bruce Speight to see if it would be tampering.

I’d rather see the Jets draft a receiver in the third round of the upcoming draft than sign Moss, but I wouldn’t put anything past the Jets at this point. It seems like there is no player in the NFL that the Jets wold shy away from. It started with Brett Favre and has escalated from there.

I say let Moss go back to the Patriots. He’s not the player he once was. The Jets have beat the Patriots with and without Moss.

There are disputing reports, however, that say the Jets have no interest in the Moss.

Again, with or without any reports, I wouldn’t put anything past the Jets.

Mattingly questions Manny and Boston in particular

By now you’ve heard that Manny Ramirez has retired from baseball after failing a drug test for PEDs in spring training with the Rays. Manny also failed a drug test in 2009 while a member of the Dodgers and served a 50-game suspension. I’ll save the how stupid can he be questions for later, but former Yankee great and current Dodgers’ skipper Don Mattingly weighed in on Manny and performance-enhancing drug use over the last decade.

“It’s hard not to wonder,” Mattingly told reporters. ”You wonder about the last seven or eight years. You wonder about Boston. You wonder about all of it.”

Watch the interview with Mattingly:  (more…)
