Who is Aroldis Chapman?

Aroldis Chapman is a 21 year old left-handed pitcher from Cuba. While playing for Cuba in the 2009 World Baseball Classic in the Netherlands, Champan walked out of his hotel, into a car and found his way to Andorra. With his passport in hand, Champan established residency in Andorra. His first attempt to defect from Cuba was unsuccessful in 2008. With a 102 MPH fastball, Chapman is considered one of the top pitching prospects in the world.

Chapman’s agent, Edwin Mejia, said in an e-mail, “Aroldis is very excited to be coming to the States and plans to spend some time in the cities of the teams interested in him, exploring the sights and meeting the fans in addition to the team representatives.” Read more about Chapman at ESPN.com

MLB teams and scouts have seen enough of Chapman in the World Baseball Classic to know what he has.
Chapman will most likely command between $40 and $60 million. The Yankees and Mets are interested in Chapman as are many other teams like the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Athletics, Giants and more. Chapman is meeting with teams and it was reported he met with the Mets at Citi Field last Friday.
