Um, well, the reports might not have used the word Megazord, but there are plenty of reports that Miami and Mike Miller have agreed to a deal tonight.

The first place to report it was KSFY.com, a radio station in South Dakota, where Miller is from. I can’t seem to track down the audio, but they apparently interviewed Miller’s father, who broke the news by holding an hour long special on the radio, I assume. The Miami Sun Sentinel wrote that Miller signed, but credited KSFY, so who knows. Miami reportedly can afford Miller, who signed a five-year deal worth $30 million deal according to the report, thanks to its trade of Michael Beasley earlier in the day.

So, the Knicks have missed out on Miller, who they were reportedly interested in. Now where can they get a shooter?

With Miller gone and Ray Allen returning to Boston, some other options that can provide threats from the outside are J.J. Redick, who is just a restricted free agent and one that the Magic seem willing to match an offer sheet if someone makes a bid, Kyle Korver and Roger Mason, who are both unrestricted free agents.

So it’s been a bittersweet night for the Knicks. They miss out on LeBron and Miller and trade fan-favorite David Lee, but also get three players in return that should all get a good deal of playing time next year. And the Knicks seemingly got more athletic with the trade, which should help in Mike D’Antoni’s system. They still have options on where to get a shooter, and ones that should be affordable, which is good. It certainly looks like things are starting to turn around, maybe slower and with smaller moves than some hoped, but turning around nonetheless.

Just think, we could be Cavaliers fans today. Wouldn’t that be unpleasant. Those who watched ESPN tonight saw video of fans burning their LeBron jerseys in Cleveland. I’m sure you all own Cavs owner Dan Gilbert’s insane open letter to Cavs fans. Although, then again, that might be a positive. I mean, if you’re going to have an owner that’s a bit out there, better to have an entertaining one like Gilbert than James Dolan, right? Perhaps my favorite thing to come out of that letter was this string of Tweets from the Cleveland Plain Dealers’ Brian Windhorst.

Fantastic. And while I’m on the topic of amusing things on the Internet tonight in regards to the LeBron news, there’s this:

And one more:

Well done once again, Internet. But we shouldn’t pile on the city of Cleveland and their fans. 1) It’s not nice and 2) they’ve been through enough. So here you go, Cleveland. A song hopefully to help start the recovery process:

Oh, wow. Um, this is awkward. I, uh, well I really didn’t mean for that to be there. Really sorry about that, Cleveland. It’s late, I’m a big Will Smith fan. It just slipped. Hope we can move on from this. It was a total accident. Here, let’s really start the healing process now:

Oh, jeez. What’s wrong with me tonight. Okay, last time, Cleveland. Let’s get better together:

Much better.

As every major sports news is now centered on LeBron James, the New Jersey Nets chances of signing him have squandered into obscurity – no one, absolutely no one – outside of Nets fans, believe that LeBron James will sign with the New Jersey Nets. Does Prokhorov believe this? No one knows as of now, except that this morning we are being bombarded by LeBron to Miami rumors – a dynasty looming on the horizon. New York went to bed fairly confident that James was coming to the Knicks – a confidence fueled by leaked twitter reports, that now seem just lifeless rumors trying to garner attention. Now, this morning, it seems eerily certain that LeBron James will sign with Miami, next to Dwayne Wade and newly signed Chris Bosh.

What does this mean for Nets fans? Bad news. In order to sign David Lee, the Nets best hope is that LeBron James signs with the New York Knicks. This would prevent the Knicks from dealing Lee in a sign-and-trade, especially from an already proposed one to the Golden State Warriors. Nets fans have to hope that: #1, that LeBron signs with their team. A hope that as we draw nearer to 9 p.m. seems more and more distant. And #2, that LeBron signs with the Knicks. This is not a traditional hope for your rival, but in order for the Nets to have a shot at David Lee, LeBron has to sign with the Knicks. The immediate future looks especially bleak for Nets fans, but – we all can hope for a miracle.

Thompson writes:

Multiple sources told me the Warriors have an offer on the table that sends forward Anthony Randolph and other pieces to New York in a sign-and-trade deal for Lee.

Thompson says the other pieces are among Ronny Turiaf, Kelenna Azubuike and Brandon Wright.

You can’t kill the Knicks for having a ‘Plan B’ even if it’s only Anthony Randolph, although none of us want to see it come to fruitition. I’d imagine signing a point guard like Raymond Felton or Luke Ridnour would also be part of the secondary plan, as it should be looked into if the Knicks land LeBron as well.

NJ.com and ESPN are reporting that Carlos Boozer has agreed to a five-year, $80 million dollar deal with the Chicago Bulls. This comes a short while after Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade sign with Miami, and a day since Amare Stoudemire signed with the New York Knicks. How’s it looking for everyone who said LeBron would be the first domino to fall? The only marquee free agent left after LeBron James is David Lee, and saying he is marquee is a stretch. If the Nets miss out on LeBron James, which is a high possibility (I think he either stays in Cleveland or goes to the Knicks) – the only free agent left on the market who could salvage their high hopes for an offseason would be David Lee. The Nets have already reached out to Lee, and having him would allow the Nets to develop Derrick Favors on a more conservative pace. At any rate, after the huge news of LeBron James’ signing to come Thursday night, it looks like the Nets offseason, after a 12-win season, after all the hype will be considered a disappointment. Solid, yes, but after hopes of John Wall, LeBron James, Chris Bosh are squandered – disappointing.

David Lee is all but done with the Knicks unless, in an unlikely occurrence, LeBron James wants to partner up with Lee in New York. The Knicks are moving in a different direction, and that direction looks like it includes Amar’e Stoudemire.

The Knicks and Lee, however, could both benefit from a sign-and-trade. Lee, who from all indications won’t do the Knicks any favors by going to any team, could receive a more lucrative deal if he agrees to a sign-and-trade to a team of his liking. The Knicks could add another piece through a sign-and-trade with Lee.

According to Ken Berger of CBS Sports:

A league source with knowledge of the market for Lee told CBSSports.com Monday that the Knicks are engaged in discussions with Utah, Toronto, Houston, Golden State and Charlotte about a sign-and-trade arrangement involving Lee.

Berger proceeds to write:

Charlotte and Golden State are involved because A) both covet Lee, and B) each has a point guard who’d complement Stoudemire if he winds up being the Knicks’ only top-tier signing. The Bobcats’ Raymond Felton and Warriors’ Monta Ellis have been on the Knicks’ radar for some time.

Everything is still contingent on LeBron James’ decision, which isn’t expected to come until Wednesday night at the earliest. LeBron is the first domino. After he signs, things are going to move quickly.

Earlier today on ESPNews, Chris Broussard said the Knicks could possibly look into a sign-and-trade with the Golden State Warriors where the Knicks would re-sign David Lee and ship him out west for Monta Ellis. I can’t find video of it, but here’s a post on a message board by someone else who was watching, just so you know I’m not making this up.

Ellis, just 24 and turning 25 in October, already has five years of NBA experience under his belt. He plays point guard and shooting guard. Ellis missed some time the past two years with injury, including only playing in 25 games two years ago after tearing a ligament in his left ankle and 64 games last season with a few minor injuries. He did, however, also average 25.5 points a game last season. Despite having some injuries, he also led the league playing 41.4 minutes a game last season. His 2.23 steals a game last season were second in the league, and hey, defense! Note: I can’t say I’ve seen enough Warriors games to know if Ellis is really a good defender, and you can’t go by steals to judge a players defense, but the Knicks didn’t have a player rank in the top 50 in steals per game last season, so we’ll take what we can get.

But, Adam, sure those stats are a bit impressive, you’re probably saying out loud to yourself at your computer right now, but I’m not sold. I really like David Lee. He’s a solid player, seems like a likable guy and there’s a chance that if he leaves, the Knicks as a team won’t average 10 rebounds a game next year. Well, reader friend, that’s not all Ellis brings to the table. No, he brings something else great. A nickname!

Yes, Ellis is known as the Mississippi Bullet. That’s not just a nickname, folks. That’s a great nickname. Don’t believe me that’s his nickname? I’m not offended. Who am I anyway? Exactly. So listen to this guy. At least he’s on Youtube.

Yes, Ellis is known as the Mississippi Bullet 1) because he’s from Mississippi (makes sense) and 2) because he’s incredibly fast.

Wouldn’t having the Mississippi Bullet in New York City be great? And not just because of his nickname.

He’s young, but comes with experience. Once, he even went to the playoffs! He can score. He can run. And if you were going to make a list of skills needed to excel in coach Mike D’Antoni’s system, wouldn’t scoring and running, not necessarily in that order, be high up on that list?

He does take a good deal of shots, last season taking 22 a game and making just a hair less than 10 a game for a .449 field goal percentage. Two years ago, Ellis averaged 20 points a game with a .531 shooting percentage, which is pretty solid, no? Just for a point of comparison, last year’s scoring champ Kevin Durant shot .476 from the field and Kobe Bryant had a .456 field goal percentage.

Ellis just finished the second year of a six-year extension worth $66 million, meaning he’s still on the books for about $11 million a year for the next four season. That’s certainly a lot of money, but at the same time, he’s still pretty young and by the time that deal ends, he’ll be in his late 20′s. Plus, if the Knicks bring him in, they’ll still have some cap room to play around with to go get whatever else they can that would help the team.

I’m not saying Ellis would come in and transform into Steve Nash, of course. He’s most definitely not a traditional pass-first point guard. Last season he averaged 5.3 assists a game, but also turned the ball over 3.8 times a game. But maybe the Knicks play him at the 2 next to Toney Douglas, Gallineri at the 3 and then worry about the front court. I’m not going to pencil in Amar’e until he’s announced at a press conference just because all of this free agent news is a bit crazy. But if he does sign, plug him at 4 and I don’t know about the center right now. But that’s a pretty exciting starting lineup.

I’m not sure if that lineup gets to the playoffs next year, though. Maybe it sneaks in with a lower seed. But it’s a fairly young core, and one that should be able to play in the up-tempo D’Antoni system. It seems like a step in the right direction, and realistically, that’s what we should hope the Knicks do. Most franchises that have been messes for years don’t typically transform into contenders in one offseason.

Of course, this is all speculation and rumors right now. Who knows what Broussard’s sources were, who he heard this from and all that. But if the Knicks did go this route, bring in Ellis and Amar’e, they’d certainly be an exciting team to watch next year. You can’t exactly say that about the past few teams. Progress!

NBADraft.net and Yahoo! Sports are reporting that the New Jersey Nets will assuredly draft Wesley Johnson from Syracuse with the 3rd overall pick, seeing that there is more and more certainty that the Wizards and Sixers will draft John Wall and Evan Turner, respectively. There is, however – some doubt on whether this is just a smokescreen by the Nets to pry away the #16 pick from Minnesota, who covets Johnson at the #4. The Nets have apparently deviated away from their original plan of drafting Derrick Favors with the pick, but reportedly Favors long term appeal did not appeal to the Nets, as well as Favors position of PF, in a PF laden draft class. Johnson worked out for the Nets last Thursday, and impressed with his maturity, and attitude. The Nets feel that Johnson will better fit their team, and give them a better opportunity to sign, and a better long term plan if they do sign a high quality PF – than Derrick Favors would.

This gives the Nets more reason to break the bank for a high quality free agent, preferably at the Power Forward position. Best scenario would be Amare Stoudemire or Chris Bosh, but more realistic options would include the likes of David Lee. More speculation and analysis on who the Nets should try to sign will come as free agency begins to near. Interesting thoughts however – Dirk Nowitzki, who opted out of his contract, has previous ties to New Jersey with former Dallas head coach Avery Johnson, and his former point guard Devin Harris. Also, how well will Mikhail Prokhorov be able to recruit foreign players? Just a thought.

Wesley Johnson of Syracuse worked out for the Nets on Thursday – a likely top 5 pick and an option for the Nets at #3. Director of Player Personnel Gregg Polinsky was quick to praise Johnson for his maturity, work ethic and his attitude. But, those pros could come with a big con – his age. Johnson is 23, after transferring to Syracuse from Iowa State after his junior year. Polinsky said that Johnson would be “the safer pick” at #3 – most likely due to the lower ceiling that Johnson has compared to other top prospects such as Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins. Picking a Small Forward would work out for the Nets the best, since they could look at other options in Free Agency, where in there are more big men than small forwards and shooting guards. Realistic options at the PF spot include Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer, Amare Stoudemire and David Lee. After drafting someone such as Johnson, you could insert him into the SF slot, and then have a solid and full of depth lineup with a signing of a PF. I, however, am still hoping that the Sixers at #2 go with Favors or Cousins, leaving Evan Turner prime for the taking at #3.

Note: Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins are working out for the Nets today.
