Chris Canty arrived at the Giants’ facility around noon Tuesday, met with the team’s coaches, including Tom Coughlin , lifted in the team’s weight room and went home. Wednesday he planned on doing the same thing, with the slight adjustment of working on his lower body instead of his upper body.

“I had an opportunity to come over here and work out and I wanted to take advantage of it because this is where I wanted to be,” Canty said as he left the facility around 2:30.

When told that early reports indicated no other NFL team was as accommodating on the first day of business after the injunction against the lockout Monday night, Canty smiled.

“I didn’t expect anything else,” he said. “This is a class- act organization all the way. They want the best for their players and they want us to be successful. I wasn’t surprised.

“This is the New York football Giants,” he added, “not the Jets .”

This little preseason jab from Canty came out of nowhere. I thought maybe he would have taken a shot at Dallas.

The Giants and Jets have been trading jabs more frequently in recent years. Rex Ryan took some jabs at the Giants in his new book.

Canty, originally from the Bronx, is entering his third season with the Giants after playing four years in Dallas. His Giants will play the Jets on Christmas Eve this season.

“I think we’re done with it,” Rex told the NFL Network.

HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg, however, didn’t rule out a possible sequel in the future.

According to Newsday, Greenburg said in a statement, ”We will give Rex and the Jets the year off from Hard Knocks. But you never know what the future holds. It took many years before there was a Star Wars sequel. Hopefully, someday, Rex and the New York Jets will be back on HBO.”

It looks like if the Jets ever want to do it again, the door is wide open.

Cromartie, in his first year with the Jets after four years with the Chargers, backed up Ryan Tuesday when he was asked by the Daily News if he’s ever seen Brady pointing after the Patriots score.

“We see that a lot. He does it a lot,” Cromartie said. “That’s the kind of guy he is. We really don’t give a damn, to tell you the truth.”

Okay, what kind of guy is Brady?

“An ass—-.

“—- him.”

Well, there’s no reason to hold back when your head coach is Rex Ryan, right?

Cromartie doesn’t need to be saying these things though. Just go about your business and “—- him” on the field by intercepting one of his passes or batting down a ball on a key third-down.

If the Jets don’t like Brady pointing at them after he scores a touchdown, they should stop him from scoring touchdowns! You don’t blow off steam to the media, you blow off steam on the field against the guy lined up in front of you.

One thing that I don’t believe Cromartie’s words did was give Brady, or any other Patriot, extra motivation to mop up the Jets. That’s not necessary at this point. If you believe in that kind of stuff, the Jets have given the Patriots enough “bulletin board” material to keep them “motivated” for years on end. These two teams hate each other and this is a big stage for these teams to try to bash the other in. If a player on either team needs extra motivation to get up for this game, they shouldn’t be playing. This is a divisional playoff game between two fierce rivals.

I’d rather all the Jets keep their mouths shut and act like professionals, but that’s not going to happen when your head coach is Rex Ryan. Although I like Ryan, I am against his brashness and bravado. I believe your play on the field does the talking for you. I don’t believe in constant trash talking through the media. But above that, I’m all about winning. If the Jets and Ryan do what they do and win, that’s all that matters. But when you talk like the Jets talk and lose, you look like fools. I guess Ryan could care less.
